I Would be a Better Person if I Owned _________.

I know it's irrational, but I feel like I would be a much better citizen and mother if this were in my basement, right next to a ball of twine and a pair of scissors.

Am I the only person who has these freaky, quasi-talisman things? Is this the same as feeling that I'd be happier/better if my closet were filled with well-tailored, designer clothes? It doesn't FEEL the same . . .

Can you tell that I just figured out how to include pictures in the blog? :-)

I have a big wicker basket I bought somewhere cheap like Target, and a whole bunch of paper grocery bags from Whole Foods. Serves the same purpose. it doesn't look as nice, but hey, it's on the basement landing so who cares? And what, pray tell, does recycling newspapers have to do with being a better mother? Hell, I think you're already a great mother, I wish you were my mother.

Besides, I long ago (well at least a few months ago, thanks to Laura the Wonder Therapist) realized that having lots of books to read makes me happy and therefore a better person, and not a whole lot else. Ipso facto...my house is a wreck filled with books. At least my mother-in-law doesn't try to dust *them*.

I've always been one for having the "proper tools" for things, and I feel like having the specific container, twine and scissors would make me FEEL like more of an environmental Good Guy.

I have a crazy fetish for canvas tote bags, too, and I think these two things are related: Both are signifiers of being a Good Guy.

I guess I'm nothing more than a little kid looking for validation, when it comes down to it.

And don't you have something similar? Isn't there something irrational that you think would improve your life? Please tell me I'm not the only one.

yes there are. although I don't think a nanny is so irrational...sigh...

This is weird and maybe not what you meant, but I always think that if I could just stop feeling guilty about everything and make myself happy with various legal and illegal substances/pharmaceuticals, we'd all be better off. I'd be way mellower and thus my kids would benefit. I know I'm wrong, but I can't help wondering if I could get past my aversion to smoking a J now and again, or even every morning, if life wouldn't be a bit better for everyone in the Sweeney household.

And on another note, for me it's also all about furniture arrangement. If I could just figure out how to perfectly arrange my furniture in one go, my life would instantly be happier and more fulfilling.

So no you are not the only one.

I lived for nearly ten years with a chronic pot smoker, and I'd have to say it allowed him to be a nice, mellow dad. If your budget allows, go for it. Your official super hero alter-ego can be Rasta Mom!

I'll help you rearrange your furniture, if you want. For some reason, that's a task that makes me happy. Let me know when you want us, and I'll bring Teddy over to play with Simon and Jude...

I don't have a job, my folks are dead, and my hair generally smells like ketchup or cheerios anyway. so maybe i should just go with it?
